Reflection of courthouse in Arts Center window
About the Gadsden County Courthouse: The present day County Courthouse is built on one of the oldest continuous sites used for seat of county government in Florida. The earlier courthouses were destroyed by fire. In 1913 the classical style building you see today was a popular style of architecture to use for public buildings. It indicated the importance of the building on the square. Quincy was established as the county seat in 1828. The location of the first courthouse is unknown. However, the second courthouse is known as the first county building built on the Town Square. The complex built on the square consisted of a courthouse, jail, and a well. Since that time, several courthouses have been built on the square. The courthouse on the square today was built in 1912-1913.
